Steve Van Denend

Lead Pastor, Elder

Steve is a co-founder and Lead Pastor of the Edge Church. His heart and passion is to help others discover and fulfill their purpose, communicate the truth of Jesus relevantly and unapologetically, and see the church fulfill its mission of living for Jesus, loving one another and serving the world.

As pastor, Steve casts vision, provides counsel, and gives oversight to the different ministries and leaders within The Edge. He is a firm believer in team leadership and is convinced that every part of the body is essential. Steve’s heart is not only for The Edge, but for the Church at large. Because of this, he regularly connects with other church leaders to build relationships, walk together, and encourage them. He is always looking for opportunities to unite with other church communities in the worship and service of God.

Before beginning The Edge, Steve worked for six years as a social worker and counselor, serving individuals and families in and around the Chicago area. Since truly committing his life to following Jesus, Steve has been involved in a variety of leadership roles in ministry including: small groups, worship/music, youth ministry, young-adult ministry, missions (locally, nationally and internationally) and speaking/teaching.

Steve has a BS in Social Work from Illinois State University (1999) and his MSW (Mental Health) from the University of Illinois - Chicago (2003). Steve received his ministerial ordination from Fountain of Life Church in Lombard, IL in 2007.

In 2000, Steve married the love of his life, his greatest blessing and college sweetheart, Toni. Together Steve and Toni love people, movies, and traveling, and find their greatest joy in raising their five children, Olivia, Mason, Noelle, and twins Madelynn and Judah.
